Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University (ZNWU) is located at the waterfront of East Lake in the picturesque Wuhan City. Its predecessor is Zhongnan Cadre Sanatorium, which was assigned to and renamed as the Second Affiliated Hospital of Hubei Medical College in 1956.

In 1993, Hubei Medical College was renamed to Hubei Medical University Second Affiliated Hospital/Second Clinical Medicine School

In August 2000, the former Wuhan University, Engineering, Wuhan University of Hydraulic and Electric Engineering, Wuhan Technical University of Surveying and Mapping, Hubei Medical University were mergedthe new Wuhan University, and the hospital was renamed as Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University/Wuhan University Second Clinical Medicine School.

The mission of ZNWU is to become one of the best research-oriented comprehensive teaching hospitals of the world.
